Pear Pizza

One of my favorite fruits is pears and I use pears in my recipes a lot. According to USA Pears pears are an excellent source of fiber and have vitamin C for only 100 calories per serving. They are also sodium free, fat free, and cholesterol free.

I think one of the best ways to eat pears is to bake them. How about super delicious, healthy, sweet and salty pear pizza?! I make my own pizza dough when I have time.  However, using store bought is perfectly fine!

Servings: 3-4

Preparation time: 3 hours (if you are making your own pizza dough)

Cook time: 12-15 minutes

Total time: 3 hours 15 minutes

Ingredients:

1 store bought pizza dough or;

Homemade Pizza Dough:

2 cups + 1/3 cup of all-purpose flour

1 package active dry yeast

¾ cup of warm water about 110 -115 Fahrenheit Degrees

1 teaspoon honey

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon olive oil

Pizza Topping:

2 Red Pears cut into thin slices

4 oz. goat cheese

2 oz. prosciutto, cut into thin strips

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 tablespoon of honey

½ teaspoon of black pepper

1 tablespoon of fresh herbs such as mint, oregano, thyme leaves

Directions:

1- In a large mixing bowl combine warm water, 1 package dry yeast, and 1 teaspoon honey. Cover the bowl with a towel and let the yeast bubble up for about 10-15 minutes.

2- Add 2 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of salt together into the bowl and mix by hand or use a hand-held or stand mixer.

3- Knead by hand or use stand mixer for about 5 minutes until dough is not sticky.

4- Place the dough into a greased large mixing bowl, cover tightly, and set aside to rise for about 2- 2 ½ hours or until double its size.

5- Place the dough on a heavily floured surface and use your fingers to stretch it, and then use your hands to shape it into circles. Or by using the rolling pin, roll dough out into a 12 inch circle.

6- Preheat the oven to 450 Fahrenheit Degrees.

7- Place the dough on a pizza stone.  If you do not have one, use a cookie sheet instead.

8- Brush the dough with olive oil and top with goat cheese, pear slices, and prosciutto

9- Bake at 450° for 10 minutes and 7 more minutes covered with aluminum foil or until the bottom is cooked.

10- Sprinkle with black pepper and drizzle honey on top.

Enjoy!
